Sad news dominating news yesterday and today...first the passing of Farrah Fawcett at the age of 62, after a long fight with cancer. We remember her from Charlie's Angels, even though she was really on the show for one season, with occasional visits here and there. Then there's the swimsuit poster...Farrah in her red bathing suit...I saw one hanging in one of the sales guys office this morning. Rest In Peace Farrah.
Then came the so very shocking news that Michael Jackson died after suffering cardiac arrest. The reports don't go into detail as to who was with him at the time, or if perhaps he had been on his own before he passed away.
I know there are a lot of people who think this kind of story may not deserve to be the top story with all that's going on in the world these days, but Michael Jackson was part of growing up for a lot of us. His music was tremendous in our lives, and my own son, who is 12 and friends have been fans for some time now.
I got this story off the wire this morning, it's an interesting take on how news spreads in our time....
It was a where-were-you moment in a digital age.Michael Jackson's death was not learned from a T-V news anchor. Instead, the news first spread online like wildfire across newssites, social media networks and Twitter.
The celebrity website T-M-Z (zee)-dot-com site broke the news of Jackson's death late yesterday afternoon. It was a huge scoop for T-M-Z, though many did not believe itsreport until it was matched by more established news organizations. But T-M-Z managing editor Harvey Levin says they wouldn't haveput the story online if they weren't positive.
Jackson dominated the discussion on Twitter, generating the mosttweets per second since Barack Obama was elected U-S president in November.
The tweeting tripped up Twitter briefly, but engineers quicklyresponded to keep the service running.Within a few hours of the news of Jackson's death, his iconic1982 album ``Thriller'' was the Number One album on i-Tunes.(The Associated Press)
Have a fabulous weekend.

8 Ways Money Can Actually Buy Happiness!!
1 - Strengthen Bonds...studies show having close relationships is one of the most important elements for happiness. So, if you can afford to travel to see family members, or buy your buddies drinks at the bar, you'll be happier
2-End Marital Conflict...Are and your spouse constantly arguring about how filthy the house is?...or how you never get any time together because of the kids? It's not such a problem when you can hire a maid or a nanny...
3- Upgrade Your Exercise....One of the best ways to improve your mood is to exercise...and it's a lot easier to do that when you can afford a new iPod, a gym membership or some cool new running shoes....
4-Have Some Fun...Obviously, when you can afford to do the things you truly love, like fly fishing, travelling or skiing for example...you're bound to be happier than if you COULDN'T afford those activities
5-Serenity and Security...Paying down your debts and putting a little money away will give you peace of mine...and that will lead to happiness
6-Pay for Healthier Food....fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods are more expensive than junk food. But healthwise, it'll pay off in the long run
7-Spending Money on Other People....One of the best ways to make yourself happy..is to make others happy. Giving to charity, or just helping out a friend can do a lot to improve your own well-being
8-Think About Your Priorities...When you're honest with yourself about what you REALLY need to be happy..and you can afford to do whatever it might be..that's happiness
Personally, I am happy with having a few bucks put aside just in case.....

Coming off a beautiful weekend like that makes it hard to want to go to work....I'll bet there were a lot "I'm too sick to come to work" calls today. Some people just need to squeeze that one extra day out of the weekend. Good for them!
We're (all right, Joe is) building a fence that completely covers our yard, so our dogs don't need to be on a chain anymore. It's tough when there is only one chain and two dogs...Elvis had his own run last year, but he wrecked the grass with his running in circles. It's growing back now. So, with the fence up all around the yard and locked gates so noone accidentally lets one or both of them out they can be free in the back. It will be awesome for them!

A combination of lighter evenings, balmier temperatures, being outdoors, the prospect of a vacation, social interaction, and memories of childhood summers.
Good news: If your kid doodles at school, he may not be tuning out this teacher. In fact, sketching while listening can help him remember 29% more of what's said, reports new British research. A study found that people with low thyroid activity are more likely to live to be 100 or more. The thyroid, located in the neck, is a kind of master gland, secreting hormones that affect metabolism.

I was driving towards Boulevard Lake the other day when something came flying out of the SUV ahead of me. It was one of those cheese and cracker packages, empty. I don't understand why people have to throw garbage out thier windows.
There are many places that have garbage cans so you can empty your trash pretty much wherever you go..the gas station, Boulevard Lake itself has many garbage bins for your litter...so why would anyone choose to just toss their trash out the window? Someone else is obviously going to have to pick it up. Yeesh.

So, I guess there is such a thing as karma...yesterday I was being sassy in my blog about leaving work for my hubby Joe to do...boy did I pay when I got home! Not by Joe, he was gone fishing.
I stopped in at the house while I was running errands yesterday and was heading into the living room...I stepped over the gate that stops the dogs from roaming the house...but it wasn't secured properly and it fell over...and so did I. My foot that had been raised over the gate slammed into the hardwood. Sigh. Besides the bruising, no damage.
A few minutes later, one of the dogs was tangled on the deck so I went out, barefoot to take care of him. When I got back to the door to go in, I stepped on the metal threshold...yes, it was sunny yesterday, which means the metal was hot. Burned the other foot.
And later at baseball, what are the odds of a ball, after a wild throw ends up flying under the fence and hitting me...in the foot. We hadn't even been on the field yet. Fortunately that one didn't even hurt.
So...it doesn't end there...I was trying to make a call on my new phone...when I ended up hitting "yes" to making an "emergency" call! I didn't even know my phone could just dial it for me...I am still getting used to it...so...I stood staring at my phone in disbelief as it read "calling 911"...to which I responded by screaming "NOOOOOOOO"!!!!!!...repeatedly hitting the button that would end the call. My teammates found this quite hilarious. I did not receive a call back from the police...so my guess is I disconnected before it actually rang through...all they would have heard was me screaming at the phone....

A single, unemployed 23 year old cowboy from South Dakota won the states powerball lottery over the weekend. The single ticket won him $230 million. He’s taking a one time, one lump payout of $88 million US.
This summer, 200 young Saudi women will be auditioning for a different kind of beauty pageant. Actually…physical beauty has nothing to do with it. This pageant will crown one woman “Miss Beautiful Morals”. The ladies will be judged on their observance of traditional values, and especially how they honour their mothers. …believe it or not – the only pageants in Saudi Arabia devoted to physical beauty are for camels and goats!!!

It's hilarious to come to work tired from your weekend...aren't you supposed to feel rested? I need work to be my break after my weekends. Lots to do...work, at a remote as well as the MS Society..then babysit those wonderful boys of my daughters...then it's work on the house AND finding time for a workout. Whew.

It was a fabulous first CKPR Backyard BBQ party last night at Sylvana's house!! First, it turns out Danny has known her almost all his life...but he knew her by her maiden name. Then while I was talking to Sylvana's sister, she pointed out that I had gone to Hammarskjold with all the girls at the party...as I looked around me, all the faces were familiar!! I had just arrived a few minutes before and did say hello to Anna, who I knew I went to school with. What an awesome surprise! I haven't seen these girls since high school! The night was a blast.
This weekend it's time to get that yard in order. Lots to plant and get growing. I'm excited because I just bought some strawberry and raspberry plants for the backyard! We had raspberry plants when we moved into this house, but sadly, Max our dog ate them. Seriously. He ripped them out of the ground and destroyed them. It was ugly. So, these bushes will be planted where our precious pets can't get at them...behind a fence!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Another eventful weekend has passed...Danny has made it through his first yard sale. Sounds like he had a great time haggling with professional yard-salers! That's what it's all about!
The "Fashion Fights MS" show was a success yesterday. There were a lot of great people who came out including those who set up booths to look at. The dancers were amazing and the models had a blast. Of course, it would not be a success if we did not fill the tables with some fabulous women out to enjoy a Sunday afternoon of fun and fashion. Nygard's Danielle and Kelly did a fabulous job helping the models choose the right clothing and announcing.
So today we had our first contestants for the Beyond the Giant contest. It's a romantic getaway package that will go to the couple who can answer the most questions. The thing is, one person will be answering the questions on paper before we go to air, then the other person will say the answers they THINK their spouse has given to the questions.
If there is a tie, then we will have to do a draw between those contestants. You can find out how well you know your spouse by going to ckpr.com and entering! Maybe you'll be joining us in studio to play!!!
