I am happy Thunder Bay City Council has decided to put permanent washroom facilities at Waddington Park by the Current River Rec Centre. I, along with my husband, coach an all girls baseball team, so I think this is an important addition not only for regular season play but also when there are tournaments going on. At least the girls who have run off when our team is up to bat won't have to go far and will likely make it back to the game before we have to return to the field. It may not be a big thing for some, but it's also going to save on people having to use the surrounding trees as "facilities". Thank you Council!

We held another "Masterpiece Theatre" by Danny and Laura this morning for the "Laugh of the Day"...
*A Love Story for Golfers*
An elderly couple were having dinner one evening when the husbandreached across the table, took his wife’s hand in his and said, “Martha, soon we will be married 50 years, and there’s something I haveto know. In all of these 50 years, have you ever been unfaithful to me?
”Martha replied, “Well Henry, I have to be honest with you. Yes, I’vebeen unfaithful to you three times during these 50 years, but always fora good reason.”
Henry was obviously hurt by his wife’s confession, but said, “/I neversuspected. Can you tell me what you mean by ‘good reasons?
’”Martha said, “The first time was shortly after we were married, and wewere about to lose our little house because we couldn’t pay themortgage. Do you remember that one evening I went to see the banker andthe next day he notified you that the loan would be extended?
”Henry recalled the visit to the banker and said, “I can forgive you forthat. You saved our home, but what about the second time?
”Martha asked, “And do you remember when you were so sick, but we didn’thave the money to pay for the heart surgery you needed? Well, I went tosee your doctor one night and, if you recall, he did the surgery at no charge.”
“I recall that,” said Henry. “And you did it to save my life, so ofcourse I can forgive you for that. Now tell me about the third time?.”
“Alright,” Martha said. “So do you remember when you ran forpresident of your golf club, and you needed 73 more votes?”
BE YOUR OWN VALENTINE!!!
Valentine’s Day can be a day filled with sweet surprises for those who have a boyfriend girlfriend or are married...but if you aren’t married...who says you can’t give yourself the royal treatment? Be your own Valentine!
Here’s how…
1. Enjoy a movie nightOn your own or with a couple of girlfriends, an evening watching your favorite movies could be just the thing you want. Pick a theme for the evening (make it a Johnny Depp night, a cheesy romance marathon or even a spine-tingling horror show), then grab your favourite sweats and some comfort food and plop yourself in front of the TV.
2. Pamper yourself with some always needed “me” time. Splurge by heading to the spa for a facial, a full-body massage, or you can even give yourself a manicure, pedicure and a two-hour bubble bath at home.
3. Have a shopping partyGrab some girlfriends and go shopping all afternoon, then grab a bite to eat.
4. Host an elegant evening for the fabulous singles in your life. Invite all those amazing single women you know (you can invite some single men as well if you like) and host a dinner party. Dress up and make (or order) your most impressive meal. Rather than awkwardly stumbling through a first date on Valentine’s Day, bring out the champagne and fine china, and spend the evening engaged in real conversations with your nearest and dearest.
5. Take care of someone. This is a great time to spend the evening volunteering at your local homeless shelter or food bank. Or book off the evening so you can go through your closet and bundle up all those items you’d like to give to a charity. Another way to give back today is to show those around you how much you care. Take a widowed relative—who may be missing a departed loved one today—out for the evening. Or be the best sibling ever by taking your nieces and nephews out for a bowling night while Mom and Dad spend some quality time together.
However you choose to spend your solo Valentine’s Day, do something that you truly enjoy. Because you just never know how many solo days you have left!

A recent study finds C-Sections by choice are soaring in Canada but that…..there is a three fold greater risk of severe complications from a C-section than a natural birth
Did you know that it costs more to raise a cat, than a dog? See…dogs cost more per year, but cats live longer – so…it actually costs about $2,000 more to raise a cat.
Looks like some people still don’t grasp the whole 911 concept – that it’s for emergencies only!!! Police arrested at 66 year old man in Florida, after he called 911 over the weekend to complain that a fast food restaurant ran out of lemonade. // and, another Floridian was arrested, after he called 911 to complain that a convenience store clerk was refusing to sell him beer!!! The man didn’t have his I.D.

Danny and I and many other radio staff were just invited down to the television studio to witness something so touching!
Paula Bentz called up to the radio office for us to come down to one of the offices in TV Land...there was going to be a surprise!!!!!
We went to the office and found about a half dozen people and a man we all know, dressed up in a suit....looking quite well, calm. But not for long. We were told that he was going to be given a cue as to when it would be safe to enter the studio area where his girlfriend, was doing some recording..so he could PROPOSE!!!
The crowd gathered around the office...coming from everywhere in the building, sales, traffic, radio, news....
Then we were told to head into one of the studios.....we waited for yet another cue to head into the studio where the unsuspecting fiancee to be was working.
Anne Carrol, our "Soap Scoop" Queen was doing some recording in the television studio when in walked her boyfriend of many years...with a bouquet of roses....she asked what he was doing and saw a group of about 30 of us behind him.....she knew what was happening when he got on one knee and told her he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her....of course she said YES!!!!!!!
It was such a sweet scene, and I don't think there were many dry eyes in the studio. The event was recorded, it's a memory she'll have to cherish forever.
Congratulations Anne and Mark!

Months that begin on a Sunday (like this one)…will always have a Friday the 13th……and you know what’s coming this Friday!!!
As hard as it might be to wait, try to hang on just a little bit longer before you spend that $100,000 in order to clone your pet dog. A biotech firm in South Korea has created a new method of cloning animals which they claim will bring down the cost within 3 years ... to about $50,000.
Fighting should be eliminated from hockey at all levels of the game, according to recommendations released Tuesday from an expert panel dealing with concussions in hockey. Fighting is one of the known causes of concussion, and may result in the related long-term complications," the panel's summary statement says. "Fighting can cause needless death."
Motorists in a Dutch town received the equivalent of five-cents-a-gallon of gas due to a computer glitch at a local station. The director of the company that operates the stations said that by the time the glitch had been fixed, customers were lining up to buy the steeply-discounted product. Although they lost a large sum of money because of the error, he said, "I guess we can consider it good publicity, even if it wasn't intentional."

We had a visit by Vicente from TacoTime this morning! Yes! it was exciting! Why? Because it proves he's the real deal. He told us he started working at the front counter at Tacotime and...here he is! He said the response has been great during his cross country tour and that he is still not used to the fame! He's touring all the TacoTime locations in the city today, maybe you'll see him this afternoon!

Believe it or not…. A new study out of England this morning, says that cows who are given names produce more milk than un-named cows.
A University Of Berlin ‘art’ student has come up with a way for blind people to enjoy body art with the world's first Braille tattoos. She devised a technique for implanting small beads of surgical steel, titanium or medical plastic under a person's skin. Braille messages could be spelled out on your arms, legs or back and read by touch.
Panasonic is about to launch a wireless device that will allow you to keep an eye on your home and even run your appliances from your car. It’s called the Strada F-Class – and it provides you with crystal clear pictures of every room in your house on a high definition screen installed on your dashboard. You can monitor what your kids are up to, make sure your pets are OK and be alerted to intruders. You can also punch in instructions to turn on heating or air conditioning before your arrival and switch on the lights. It’ll hit Japan first….then, North America.
And…this is neat….just in time for Valentine’s Day. If Barack Obama – the President Of The United States….has the time to do this………then so can you. Even though he’s the most powerful man in the world….he has time for ‘date night’. Every Friday night……..Barack and Michelle Obama…shut the world out – and have ‘date night’. It could be watching movies, having candle-lit dinners or whatever – it’s Date night.

Ahhh....Friday. For those of us who can sleep in tomorrow, this is a good day.
I have no plans for this afternoon (so far) and must go for a run (begrudgingly) because I am in a race next weekend. Not that I really want to race, but I do want to run, AND I can do it with a group of people and have fun!
Unfortunately, there are hills in this run, but I am always up for and usually can't turn down a challenge. I haven't run full force since the Jamaica Half Marathon in December, and as this is a half marathon as well...it's the "Hypothermic Half ", I had better get moving. Actually, since the Jamaica Run in the beginning of December, I actually have only run indoors, on my treadmill because I just don't want to go outside.
After thinking about what I should do, I sent a text message to Mark my running coach from last year, to ask if he thought I could still pull this off. I received a one word answer. "Yes".... Gaah! Not what I wanted to hear, but, as I said, I cannot refuse a challenge so....I will be running.

The average Canadian last year was five dollars in debt for every four dollars they earned
According to a new study by Kelton Research, 53% of teens think text messaging has improved their relationship with their parents. It may be because texting gives kids more space but allows parents to keep in touch as often as necessary.
A couple of years ago researchers in Guelph, Ontario… looking into the chemistry of love found that we are addicted to love…. actually we’re addicted to the chemical reaction that love creates
In Ottawa this week, they unveiled a new clock counting down the minutes until the start of the 2010 Winter Games February 12, 2010
HOW SMART IS YOUR RIGHT FOOT?
This is ridiculous. Try this!!
1. Without anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY!!) and while sitting at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.
2. Now, while doing this, draw the number ‘6’ in the air with your right hand.. Your foot will change direction. I told you so!!! And there’s nothing you can do about it! You and I both know how stupid it is, but before the day is done you may try it again, if you’ve not already done so.
Have a Great Weekend!

Did you know…that blue jeans were originally named after the city of Genoa, Italy? The old name for Genoa was “geane”…when it began exporting sturdy twill cloth to England in the 1500’s.
If you missed us talking about this yesterday….here it is again: Google is now out with a new feature……similar to 411. However…this is free!!! It uses a computer voice interface and asks you where and what you’re looking for. Try it: 1-800-GOOG-411 (1 800 – 466 – 4411). …and that’s not all with Google. They’ve also launched Google Ocean. This will allow you to virtually explore all the world’s ocean landscapes by clicking on icons that allow you to see what’s on top of and underneath the waters.
The CEO’s of the Royal Bank and Scotiabank both took pay cuts in 2008 – that was reported by the banks on Tuesday. The Scotiabank CEO who made just over $10 million back in 2007….only made $7.5 million last year.

Remove red stains ....wet them with lukewarm water, then add a layer of table salt. Rub and let set for a few minutes. Pull the fabric tight across a heat-proof bowl and secure it with a rubber band. Place in the sink and pour boiling water through the stain from a height of 3 feet.
For drying wet nail polish quickly...dip your hands into ice cold water or spray your nails with a cooking oil like PAM
Thanks to William and Jan Dyer for sending in these.....
If you have a bad cold and can’t take any medication.....mix a coffee cup of hot water with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Drink as often as you want. This is a natural neo-citrane.
If you have a sore throat or laryngitis take a coffee cup full of ginger ale. Heat in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes. Drink the ginger ale warm. Something in the warm ginger soothes the throat and clears up the laryngitis.
