So we jumped the gun and got upset (in a joking manner) when we realized one of the on air guys..Miggz...has pens with his name on it AND his work email address...basically a calling card...pen.
What? We don't get pens? What the heck!
So...we called Miggz to see where the pens came from....of course his phone was off. IT'S NEVER OFF!! So we left a nasty voicemail message (of course we told him we loved him at the end of it).
We then sent off an email to the boss...about what a jerk he is and why didn't we get pens? What kind of promotion was being run that did not include all of the on air staff? What about Bill Hogan? Dave the mid day guy? Where were our pens? Of course..it was all in jest...for the most part. I wrote it...and signed Danny's name.
We finally found a home number for Miggz....and got him on the line! He had gone to bed late...about the time Danny and I were arriving at work...but too bad!! We had to get to the bottom of this "Pen" issue!!
You see...in our control room..pens go missing. Miggz has spoken about that a lot...so..his kind, sweet mother...bought him about 150 pens with his name and email address on them...and that's where the pens came from. Ooops......
The lesson...as always....never jump to conclusions. We have a meeting with our boss now...gotta go...
Talk to you tomorrow?

Friday is Remembrance Day....here is some information on the Poppy that we wear in Remembrance.....
HISTORY
Each November, Poppies blossom on the lapels and collars of over half of Canada’s entire population. Since 1921, the Poppy has stood as a symbol of Remembrance, our visual pledge to never forget all those Canadians who have fallen in war and military operations. The Poppy also stands internationally as a “symbol of collective reminiscence”, as other countries have also adopted its image to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
This significance of the Poppy can be traced to international origins.
The association of the Poppy to those who had been killed in war has existed since the Napoleonic Wars in the 19th century, over 110 years before being adopted in Canada. There exists a record from that time of how thickly Poppies grew over the graves of soldiers in the area of Flanders, France. This early connection between the Poppy and battlefield deaths described how fields that were barren before the battles exploded with the blood-red flowers after the fighting ended.
Just prior to the First World War, few Poppies grew in Flanders. During the tremendous bombardments of that war, the chalk soils became rich in lime from rubble, allowing “popaver rhoes” to thrive. When the war ended, the lime was quickly absorbed and the Poppy began to disappear again.
The person who was responsible more than any other for the adoption of the Poppy as a symbol of Remembrance in Canada and the Commonwealth was Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, a Canadian Medical Officer during the First World War.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae
With Britain declaring war on Germany on 4 August 1914, Canada’s involvement was automatic. John McCrae was among the first wave of Canadians who enlisted to serve and he was appointed as brigade surgeon to the First Brigade of the Canadian Forces Artillery.
In April 1915, John McCrae was stationed near Ypres, Belgium, the area traditionally called Flanders. It was there, during the Second Battle of Ypres, that some of the fiercest fighting of the First World War occurred. Working from a dressing station on the banks of the Yser Canal, dressing hundreds of wounded soldiers from wave after wave of relentless enemy attack, he observed how “we are weary in body and wearier in mind. The general impression in my mind is of a nightmare.”
In May, 1915, on the day following the death of fellow soldier Lt Alexis Helmer of Ottawa, John McCrae wrote his now famous work, an expression of his anguish over the loss of his friend and a reflection of his surroundings – wild Poppies growing amid simple wooden crosses marking makeshift graves. These 15 lines, written in 20 minutes, captured an exact description of the sights and sounds of the area around him.
Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae left Ypres with these memorable few lines scrawled on a scrap of paper. His words were a poem which started, “In Flanders fields the poppies blow…” Little did he know then that these 15 lines would become enshrined in the innermost thoughts and hearts of all soldiers who hear them. Through his words, the scarlet Poppy quickly became the symbol for soldiers who died in battle.
The poem was first published on 8 December 1915 in England, appearing in “Punch” magazine.
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
John McCrae
His poem speaks of Flanders fields, but the subject is universal – the fear of the dead that they will be forgotten, that their death will have been in vain. Remembrance, as symbolized by the Poppy, is our eternal answer which belies that fear.
Sadly, Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae died of pneumonia at Wimereux, France on 28 January 1918. He was 45 years old.
I found the following information through http://www.salvationarmy.ca/?s=poppy&x=18&y=6
DID YOU KNOW?
The poppy should be worn as close to the heart as possible on the left lapel of the outermost garment
An old poppy should never be reused.
Poppy’s found lying on the ground should be placed in a cemetery or at the foot of a war monument.
In 1915, John McCrae, a Guelph, Ont. native and doctor serving with the Canadian Forces Artillery, wrote about the poppy explosion in his famous poem In Flanders Fields.
The average donation for a poppy is a loonie.
In recent years, the distribution of poppies has been steadily climbing. Let’s keep up the trend.

Hey there!! Long time no see!!!
Last night...Superior High School held it's Student Recognition Evening....Matthew had taken Jump Start last year and won an award for technology...here's the thing..it wasn't just people in his grade..it was everyone who did well in their classes last school year...so you can imagine....well...let me start by asking you this...what's our last name? Zaina...starts with a Z. So, we conversed and have decided to ad an A to our name...Azaina.....so we aren't always waiting til the end. Just kidding actually...out of respect that we will always stay until everyone received their award. The staff did a great job though...they kept it moving fast...it was only about 45 minutes!! They know what they're doing!!!
The picture though? A blur!! lol! We all forgot to bring a camera so I had to try to use my cell phone camera. Turns out...there were a few Z's missing from their list....so I was surprised at how fast Matt's name came up!! So...it was a blur...of Matt going in one direction and the principal facing the other way. Ahhh...memories!!!
Have a great weekend!!!

Morning all!!
It's the day before Friday the 13th!! Do you have any superstitions? I don't...but there is one thing that bothers me even when it's not a Friday the 13th. I cannot stand it when the volume level on the tv is at 13. Seriously. My hubby laughed at me (in a nice way) when I told him he had to go up one or down one...but the level could not be at 13. I have no idea why that would bother me so much...cause I certainly don't mind watching channel 13. Also...if I eat chocolate easter eggs (I use this as an example because we still have an abundance of these)...it has to be 12 or 14. Usually 14.
I love status updates on facebook...this morning we talked about a couple that caught our eye...the first one is from a friend of ours..a coworker, so we won't put her name on here...but here is what her status said...oh..we need to add that she is expecting...
one of our facebook friends...who is expecting posted this last night...
.....just went to take out dinner out of the oven and realized I accidently SHUT it off 25 mins ago when I was checking the time...and the other day I went to put a loonie in a parking meter but turns out it was the newspaper box...grrr...would really like my brain cells back.
This one had me laughing when it was posted this morning...this is from Judy...frin her status update this morning....
Judy...s awake. If you're expecting bright-eyed and bushy-tailed go catch a squirrel.
One of the things I love about facebook is reading these status updates...people are so funny!
Have a wonderful day!!

May is here!! and the snow continues...but hopefully...this is the last of it? Tomorrow sunny and 14! Hope that helps you get through the day!
The boys came for a sleepover this weekend...Brandon is 4 and Garrett is 3. I think though, that they may be using me for my wii and Toy story 3 game..anyways....they decide where they want to sleep...either with me, their Uncle Matt or Auntie Vic...they chose to sleep with Auntie Vic Saturday night. Yesterday, Victoria said she was laying in bed with her eyes closed, andI heard Brandon lean over to Garret and say "Garrett, I had the greatest dream last night!!" Garrett said "Really?!", in his cute little voice. Then Brandon starts telling him about having a dream about tractors, and one of the tractors was his buddy, then he was standing on it and threw a lasso onto a fence! Victoria said it was so funny listening to them talk about it!!
Ahh..kids. We are celebrating Mother's Day all month here at CKPR...we have questions every weekday to answer and win a $250 prize pack!! As we were talking about it this morning, I was reminded of the time my daughters Kayla and Victoria decided to make me breakfast for Mother's Day. I waited in my room...I could hear the commotion in the kitchen..and after a while, they came in with breakfast all ready for me. Some juice and toast. I LOVED it!! There is nothing like seeing your children, proud of their accomplisments. It took some time to eat the toast..which by the time they buttered, it was cold. I giggled as I snuggled them and enjoyed breakfast. Ahhh...memories.

Happy Tuesday!!
Some fun things to share from the show for you this morning!!
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CANADA AND AMERICA:
• No hockey team in Canada named after ducks.
• Canadians keep the peace, Americans carry a piece.
• Doesn’t say ‘flocons de mais grillés’ on a US box of Corn Flakes.
• Americans have a ‘buck’; Canadians have a ‘loonie’.
• Americans have sunny beaches in Florida to visit each Winter, while Canadians have
... sunny beaches in Florida to visit each Winter.
Don't feel guilty about your chocolate consumption...it was Easter after all! Check this out...you'll feel much better about it!!
THE RULES OF CHOCOLATE:
• If you get melted chocolate all over your hands, you’re eating it too slowly.
• Chocolate-covered raisins, cherries, orange slices, and strawberries all count as fruit. So eat as many as you want.
• Eat chocolate before each meal. It’ll take the edge off your appetite and you’ll eat less.
• If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves.
• Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger.
• Why is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous? Because no one wants to quit.
• Put ‘Eat Chocolate’ at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you’ll get one thing done.
• Money talks. Chocolate sings.
Have a great day!!!

I spent some time with the Harbour Youth Services Girls Club at Kingsway Park School yesterday...this club is called the "Kids Come First" club. I had such a great time with them!!
I read “The Monster Who Ate Darkness” to them...their theme right now is "Monsters"
They asked all kinds of questions about my job....then they wanted autographs!!!
This all started with a letter I received a few weeks ago from the girls...the letter was hand written...by the girls, who are in grades 1 to 4...a colourful letter it was...and it had all kinds of cutouts of the things I love...a camera, baseball, a picture of a family, headphones, books and of course...popcorn..these girls did their research!! The letter was asking if I could help out with an event coming up....the 2011 Amazing Raising Cash For Kids Race! This will be held May 28th....and it is in support of the Harbour youth Services' after school programs...where kids have aceess to the resources and support they need to dream big!!
These programs are great for the girls club who I visited yesterday...and for the boys club...and the programs are at more than one school...so if you wanted to help out..go to hyskids.com and sign up for this fun event!!!

An icon passed away this week....Elizabeth Taylor passed away. She was laid to rest in a simple ceremony yesterday. There was no procession to the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, just limousines carrying family members. The service started after a 15 minute delay. Her publicist says that's because the screen legend wanted to be
late to her own funeral. You have to appreciate the humour!
